Author to speak about "Seducing the Boys Club": May 1

Greenwich, CT
203-869-6501
General Interest

Nina DiSesa, Chairman of McCann Erickson New York, will discuss her new book, "SEDUCING THE BOYS CLUB: Uncensored Tactics from a Woman at the Top," at the YWCA on Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 pm.

The discussion and book-signing, co-sponsored with the Greenwich Library Peterson Business Program Series, is free and open to the public. To register go to www.ywcagreenwich.org or call 869-6501, ext. 0.

"Business is not a level playing field. No matter how much we hate to hear this, it's still true. You can ignore that basic fact, or you can use whatever you've got to overcome the imbalance. There is a double standard. It stinks, but it is there nonetheless," writes DiSesa.

In an engaging narrative that traces Nina's career from copyrighter to chairman, SEDUCING THE BOYS CLUB (Ballantine Books; February 2008) says that the best way for women to expand their professional horizons is not by abandoning their uniquely feminine characteristics (nurturing, compassion, listening), but by combining these traits with those of their male counterparts (competitiveness, decisiveness, combativeness).

Evening with Carl Bernstein at Avon Theatre, Dec 13th @7pm

Greenwich, CT
203-869-6501
General Interest

The YWCA Center for Women's Leadership, the Avon Theatre and Just Books are co-sponsoring "An Evening with Carl Bernstein," at the Avon Theatre in Stamford on Thursday, December 13 at 7:00 pm. The Pulitzer Prize winning author will discuss his newest book, "A Woman in Charge," about Hillary Rodham Clinton. A special screening of "All the President's Men" will follow the book signing and discussion.

Tickets go on sale for YWCA of Greenwich and Avon members on Tuesday, October 30 for $30 and for the general public on Tuesday, November 6, for $40. Ticket purchases can be made at the Avon box office, or by calling 203-967-3660, ext. 3 during show times, or 203-661-0321 during daytime business hours.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Carl Bernstein's stunning portrait of Hillary Rodham Clinton shows us, as nothing else has, the true trajectory of her life and career with its zigzag bursts of risks taken and safety sought. Marshaling all the skills and energy that propelled his history-making Pulitzer Prize reporting on Watergate, Bernstein gives us the most detailed, sophisticated, comprehensive, and revealing account we have had of the complex human being and political meteor who has already helped define one presidency and may well become, herself, the woman in charge of another.

In his preparation for A Woman in Charge, Bernstein reexamined everything pertinent written about and by Hillary Clinton. He interviewed some two hundred of her colleagues, friends, and enemies and was allowed unique access to the candid record of the 1992 presidential campaign kept by Hillary's best friend, Diane Blair.

He has given us a book that enables us, at last, to address the questions Americans are insistently-even obsessively-asking about Hillary Clinton: What is her character? What is her political philosophy? Who is she? What can we expect of her?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Carl Bernstein shared a Pulitzer Prize with Bob Woodward for his coverage of Watergate for The Washington Post. He is the author, with Woodward, of All the President's Men and The Final Days, and, with Marco Politi, of His Holiness: John Paul II and the History of Our Time. He is also the author of Loyalties, a memoir about his parents during McCarthy-era Washington. He has written for Vanity Fair (he is also a contributing editor), Time, USA Today, Rolling Stone, and The New Republic. He was a Washington bureau chief and correspondent for ABC News. He lives with his wife, Christine, in New York.

ABOUT THE FILM: In the Watergate Building lights go on and four burglars are caught in the act. That night triggered revelations that drive a U.S. President from office. Washington reporters Bob Woodward (Robert Redford) and Carl Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman) grabbed the story and stayed with it through doubts denials and discouragement. All The President's Men is their story. Directed by Alan J. Pakula and based on the Woodward/Bernstein book the film won four 1976 Academy Awards (Best Supporting Actor/Jason Robards, Best Adaptated Screenplay/William Goldman, Art Direction, and Sound). It also explores a working newspaper where the mission is to get the story and get it right.
