Engel & Völkers Goes 'Green' for Greenwich

Greenwich, CT
1-203-661-7777
General Interest

Realtor to Distribute Free Energy-Efficient Light Bulbs during June

Community Wide Campaign – Green Light, Green Life

Greenwich may begin with “green,” but some want to make sure the town is truly living up to its green name. In a new campaign for environmental awareness, “Green Light, Green Life,” Engel & Völkers, one of the leading international real estate firms, will distribute 2,500 energy-efficient light bulbs to residents who come into the company’s Greenwich Avenue “shop” during the month of June. At the same time, Engel & Völkers encourages residents to bring in their old incandescent bulbs, which will be recycled to local artists to create innovative art work that will be displayed later this summer. Bulbs will be distributed while supplies last.

Engel & Völkers has partnered with local non-profit organization Volunteer-On-Call, Inc., and will hand out Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs that provide the same amount of light as traditional bulbs but use less energy. The CFL bulbs use only 26 watts of energy and give the illumination equivalent of 100 watts. While regular incandescent light bulbs burn out faster than conventional bulbs, the new bulbs can last up to seven years. Energy-efficient bulbs can help reduce the amount of fossil fuels burned to produce energy. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, if every American home replaced just one light bulb with an energy-efficient bulb, the country would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year, more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.

“This is our way of contributing to this community and to the environment,” says Bryan Dinkelacker, Engel & Völkers License Partner. He added: “the results of a 2007 NAR (National Association of Realtors) survey showed that more than 90 percent of recent homebuyers thought energy efficiency was an important consideration when searching for a new home. We want to create more of an awareness about ways that individuals can make a difference in their own homes in their community. We are pleased to be part of this campaign and help reinforce the message that we can help make a difference in today’s world, beginning at home.”

In addition to giving out new light bulbs, Engel & Völkers is also offering an opportunity for artists who have a special spark of creativity to use old light bulbs in an imaginative way. “We welcome artists and aspiring artists to participate by making something new out of something old,” says Eric Wright, Engel & Völkers License Partner. “There are endless possibilities and we anticipate some interesting creations.” An exhibition to display the light bulb art will take place later this summer.

Engel & Völkers is one of the world’s leading real estate companies with offices around the globe. Its fast-growing network consists of over 325 “shops” in over 23 countries. Its “shop” on Greenwich Avenue opened its doors at the beginning of the year and is well on its way to becoming the new player in Greenwich Real Estate. “We provide local service with global reach,” says Bryan Dinkelacker. “We are bringing a refreshing concept and exclusive brand image to Greenwich, and we believe that it’s time to think beyond the provincial and old way of conducting the business of real estate. We give the customer everything else on the local level, plus Greenwich Avenue presence and a “real” global listing service. Maximum exposure is what will sell properties these days…we can provide it where no one else really can!”

Volunteers-On-Call, Inc. is a Greenwich-based, all-volunteer 501(c) (3) Non-Government Organization (NGO) whose mission is to raise public awareness about the value of volunteering and to provide short-term opportunities for local, national and international service to the poor and homeless. The organization has engaged and mobilized thousands of volunteers to refurbish and build houses in Greenwich and around the world since its inception in 2003. Its president, Roxana Bowgen, also the first Estate Agent to join the Greenwich Engel & Völkers team, is a leading name in Greenwich real estate and has received numerous awards for Top Producing Agent and Customer Service.

Engel & Völkers’ “Green Light, Green Life” campaign begins June 1. Lights bulbs will be distributed while supplies last. Artists interested in using old light bulbs should call 203-531-3047 for details.
