Brita Darany, founder and president of FAP-Friends of Autistic People-, and Jim McArdle, owner of the McArdle's Florist and Garden Center on Arch Street in central Greenwich, have announced that fifteen percent (15%) of all purchases made over the Thanksgiving weekend from Friday, November 23rd through Sunday, November 25th will benefit Friends of Autistic People’s programs and its Farm Project fund for grown children with autism.

Brita Darany said: “We are pleased that Jim McArdle has once again agreed to support FAP by donating proceeds of florist center sales over three days. This generous support will help us improve the lives of families who have a child autism and also get us one step closer to the dream of a Farm for the grown children with autism .”

Jim McArdle said: “McArdle’s Florist and Garden Center on a business and personal level believes in giving back to our community. We welcome the opportunity to support Friends of Autistic People and look forward to a busy Thanksgiving weekend.”

Friends of Autistic People is a not-for-profit voluntary organization composed of parents and professionals dedicated to raising awareness of services and supported living arrangements needed for the entire spectrum of grown children with autism. The agency offers a parent support group, legislative forums and workshops on autism throughout the year.

Stamford Hospital’s Dream Ball will feature an evening of entertainment with silent and live auctions, cocktails, gourmet cuisine, and dancing to live music by The Subscribers, a group of Wall Street’s finest and funniest black sheep musicians (and the inventors of Charity Rock).

Proceeds from the event will benefit the hospital’s regional programs and services.

The Dream Ball will take place at the Tully Health Center, 32 Strawberry Hill Court in Stamford on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Over four hundred people came together, listened to the moving and heart-felt speeches from the men and family members who have been directly and positively impacted by Family ReEntry's Programs, and then listened to an amazingly diverse musical performance by ETHEL, and their guests Thomas Dolby, David Krakauer and James Bilagody. These musical performances at Bydale, the historic home of Joan Warburg, brought the community together to help raise awareness of one of the most encouraging initiatives undertaken by Family ReEntry and that is to create positive role models and proud contributing members for our society who might otherwise not been offered that chance.

Since 1984, Family ReEntry’s programs have helped thousands of people within the criminal justice system become more capable parents and more responsible citizens while at the same time cutting the heavy cost of incarceration and making Fairfield County a better and safer place to live. Note: We consulted James Bilagody on usage of the term "Indian" in the video and he provided the following comment. "I don't mind being called "the Indian" but there are folks that may take offense...but...I truely believe this can be a learning experience for folks from various perspectives...I would vote to keep the footage in there and to note that the term "Indian" is deemed negative by some Native Americans and some would prefer to be called by their tribal affiliation and/or their family/clan name."

Youngsters are invited to bring their favorite stuffed toy or doll for evaluation and treatment by doctors, nurses and other health professionals from more than 30 hospital departments and specialties. Depending on the diagnosis, X-rays, ultrasound, surgery, splints or stitches may be ordered. Plus, kids have a chance to check out lab microscopes and tiny surgical cameras, and learn about how to eat right, exercise and protect their skin from the sun.

Children ages 3-12, accompanied by an adult, are welcome to visit the Teddy Bear Clinic. It's free, and healthy snacks are available. Meet Dr. Teddy, too!

It's a great way to teach your kids about good healthy habits, and to put a friendly face on medical care. Greenwich Hospital's Teddy Bear Clinic, now in its 9th year, familiarizes children with hospital staff and procedures and might even inspire them to join our healthcare team some day! It's a fun afternoon of hands-on learning.

Mental illness strikes one in five Americans each year. Many people never seek treatment, fearing what their friends and families will think and believing there is no treatment or hope for recovery. Some become homeless - too poor and too sick to care for their basic needs. Pathways provides an alternative through a caring network of services that enables people suffering from mental illness to live independently and with dignity in their home community. Pathway's owns and operates four homes, sponsors social and recreational activities, and offers outreach, counseling, and job training. The challenges that come with mental illness are many, but recovery is possible with community support and our understanding.

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) today announced that it will award Founder of the Lance Armstrong
Foundation, cancer survivor and Tour de France Champion, Lance Armstrong, with the Spirit of Hope Award at the 11th Annual Friends for Life Fall Gala, held on Oct. 27, 2007, at the Greenwich Hyatt in Greenwich, Conn. The Spirit of Hope Award honors individuals who inspire hope with their determination and perseverance in overcoming personal obstacles such as a cancer diagnosis.

"I am thrilled to honor Lance Armstrong at this exciting event because his personal dedication and drive makes him an incredible source of strength for us all," said Kathy Giusti, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the MMRF.

Lance Armstrong was diagnosed in 1996 with advanced testicular cancer at the age of 27. He underwent aggressive treatment and overcame unbelievable odds to beat the disease. Less than three years later, Lance went on to win the Tour de France and then won an additional six consecutive Tours.

"The MMRF has made tremendous progress in improving the way medical research is conducted so that treatments can be brought to patients faster and, ultimately, lives can be saved," said Lance Armstrong. "It is an honor to be recognized by this extraordinary organization and, in particular, by MMRF founder and CEO Kathy Giusti, whose vision and devotion have made a such a significant different for cancer patients."

The MMRF will also honor Robert Wolf, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, UBS Group Americas, with the Corporate Leadership Award. The Corporate Leadership Award honors prominent business leaders who have gone above and beyond in supporting the MMRF in pursuit of its mission. Wolf, who is a former member of the MMRF's Board of Directors and
currently sits on the Foundation's Leadership Council, will serve as the event's Gala Chairman.

"I am honored to be recognized by the MMRF and humbled to be sharing the stage with two such inspirational people, namely Kathy Giusti and Lance Armstrong," Wolf said.

The Friends for Life Fall Gala is the MMRF's hallmark fundraising event and has raised more than $10 million to date. Deborah Norville, host of Inside Edition, will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies. Previous honored guests have included CBS Evening News' Katie Couric, NBC Nightly News' Brian Williams, and Eric McCormack of Will & Grace.
